CHRONIC BRONCHITIS
π‘ What is Chronic Bronchitis?
Chronic bronchitis is a long-term illness that affects your lungs. It happens when the tubes (called bronchi) that carry air to your lungs stay swollen and full of mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and causes a cough that lasts a long timeβat least 3 months a year for 2 years in a row.
π What Causes Chronic Bronchitis?
Smoking is the most common cause.
Breathing in pollution, dust, or chemical fumes can also cause it.
Sometimes, people get it after having lung infections over and over.
π Treatment
Quit smoking β the most important step.
Medicines β like inhalers or pills to help open your airways.
Pulmonary rehab β special breathing exercises and training.
Oxygen therapy β if your oxygen levels are too low.
Stay away from smoke and irritants β protect your lungs.
π₯ Special Diet
Eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
Drink plenty of fluids to help thin mucus.
Avoid heavy or fried foods if they make you feel short of breath.
β οΈ Special Precautions & Considerations
Donβt smoke or let others smoke near you.
Wash your hands to avoid getting sick.
Get your flu shot and pneumonia vaccine every year.
